For about ten years, I have worked as a freelance editor/proofreader for corporate, academic, and private clients in my hometown of Calgary. A lot of my work has been with ESL speakers, often in an academic context.

East Village Feasibility Study (Excerpt)
I was contracted to work as a writer/researcher/editor by the consulting firm MK Strategy Group, Inc. MK was working on behalf of a developer to create an application for a government grant. This feasibility study for an inner-city Calgary development is one of several I worked on for this client. The copy in this document combined my own writing with the client's existing literature.
In this project, the goal was not only to demonstrate that the development met the requirements of the grant program, but to paint a picture of an exciting, innovative development that would attract people from all over the city to build lives in a new, unexplored part of Calgary. Luckily, it's pretty easy to find inspiring things to write about the East Village.
Calgary 2012 Grant Application: "fInd it"
In early 2012 I co-wrote a grant application for the Vibrant Village Society of Inglewood & Ramsay, a Calgary non-profit. This excerpt describes our project, a series of "pop-up" art events called "find it". The application's success depended upon the portrayal of our neighbourhoods as vibrant, inviting urban spaces. We were successful and the group was awarded the full amount requested ($12,000.00).

23rd Avenue Ladies' Club (530 words)
I submitted this mid-length article to my community newsletter in 2010, wanting to share the inspiring story of a neighbourhood group. Writing this article led to me becoming one of the newsletter's editors!
Calgary Herald "Project Calgary" Comic Strip
This comic strip poster (10"x22") was published as a full page in the Calgary Herald on December 31st, 2011, as part of the Herald's "Project Calgary" series. The Herald approached different Calgary writers to submit pieces about their neighbourhoods, and I was asked to write my article as a comic strip.
