Announcing: a Graphic Recording Workshop in Calgary, Alberta, in November 2026!

Together with Joleyne Mayers-Jaekel of ViClarity Inc., I'm excited to let you know that we will be joining forces once again to host a two-day graphic recording workshop at Kensington Art Supply & Instruction, on November 28 & 29, 2026! We did this back in 2024, and it's high time we did this again!

Whether you’re new to visual note-taking or looking to expand your creative toolkit, this workshop is a fun and engaging way to explore the art of visual storytelling.

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll discover how words, images, and simple graphics can work together to capture ideas, conversations, and key concepts in real time. Guided by two experienced and local professional graphic recorders, you’ll learn practical techniques that you can apply in meetings, classrooms, workshops, and beyond.

Our 2024 workshop!
Graphic recording is a versatile skill that can be applied in various contexts, so this workshop welcomes participants from diverse backgrounds. It's not limited to those with a specific expertise, but can be adapted to suit the needs of different individuals and professions.

What supplies are included?

You will receive a graphic recording kit filled with everything you need to get started. The kit includes specialized mark making tools, a workshop manual and a one-time Neuland discount code so you can add to your kit.
We will have paper, paper, and more paper, as well as other mark making tools to experiment with. All you need to bring is a coffee mug and comfy shoes!
Coffee, tea, juice and water will be available and there is a small kitchen at the venue you are welcome to use. There are several restaurants close by to purchase your own lunch.

Fee

The two-day in-person Graphic Recording Workshop is $2000.00 plus GST and Eventbrite fees. You can skip the Eventbrite fees and pay by e-transfer if you prefer. Email [email protected] for details. Payment in full must be received by October 16th, 2026.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation 29 days or less before the course is non-refundable. We understand that life happens so do provide the option of transferring your spot to someone else.

About your Workshop Hosts

Joleyne Mayers-Jaekel is the Principal of ViClarity Inc., a professional graphic recorder and aspiring lettering artist based in Bragg Creek, Alberta. She helps individuals, teams and organizations make complex information more accessible and engaging through the creation of visual representations of ideas, conversations, and presentations in real time.

She is a member of the Bow Valley Calligraphy Guild and has always been creative at heart!

Joleyne holds a MA in Leadership (Health) from Royal Roads University, is an Appreciative Inquiry Facilitator and World Café Host.

Sam Hester, of The 23rd Story (that's me), has worked as a graphic recorder in Calgary/Moh’kinsstsis since 2013, creating visual stories that draw upon deep listening skills, a passion for community-building… and a lot of markers.

When she's not taking notes at live events, Sam does independent comics journalism and advocates for the graphic medicine movement.

Sam attended the Universities of Calgary and Toronto, as well as OCAD University, way back when it was still the Ontario College of Art and Design.
