A note: there isn't a lot happening, workshop-wise, at the end of 2020 as I write this. My efforts this year have been focused more on how to pivot my practice to a virtual model. Maybe workshops could happen again, sometime - but in the meantime, here are some thoughts on graphic recording workshops from back in 2018.

Graphic Recording Workshops

What am I most excited by, in the field of graphic recording these days? The fact that so many people are interested in learning how to do this!

Five years ago, a lot of people just watched in awe or bemusement. In 2018, everybody's catching on to the idea that these skills can be learned and applied in a wide range of ways. You don't have to be a professional graphic facilitator, or have a background in the arts, to incorporate these tools to your own practice, whatever it may be. I'm excited that people want to learn, because there's a huge demand for visual notetaking, both globally and where I live, in Alberta.

I've been asking myself: How can I help to grow the movement? Here's one idea:

I can offer workshops tailored to the needs of different learners. This is a work in progress for me, and after a few practice rounds with a few gracious participant groups, the journey started with my first workshop at the University of Calgary's Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning, in May 2018. I'm grateful to everyone who participated and provided feedback, to help me learn how we can do this together!

Watch this space for more workshop-related news. There are a few other ideas in the works, and I'll post them here when I know more. In the meantime, feel free to get in touch - suggestions and ideas are welcome!

All the best,
sam

Here's a bunch of notes from the May workshop mentioned above. These were notes I took during the workshop - some parts show the information I was sharing, and other parts show what I recorded from participant input. Afterwards, I went back and wrote all the notes in pink, to provide some context. A bit hard to look at, but hopefully it provides a conversation-starter along your own learning journey!
